Privacy policy

The file you open is processed inside your browser tab and is never uploaded. That one decision settles most of what this page has to say.

What never leaves your device

  • Your file. The audio or video you drop in is read by your own browser. Recognition runs in the tab. There is no upload step, so there is no server copy, no retained transcript, and nothing for us to lose or hand over.
  • The result. The text appears in the tab and goes nowhere else. Close the tab and it is gone.
  • Consequence. We cannot recover a transcript for you, and we cannot see one. If you need it, copy it out before you close the tab.

What we do record

  • Page measurement. This site uses Google Analytics to measure traffic. It records that a page was opened, roughly where in the world, and on what kind of device and browser — the ordinary measurement most sites perform.
  • Not tied to your file. That measurement cannot be connected to anything you transcribed, because we never learn which file that was.
  • Request logs. Our host keeps the standard logs any web server keeps in order to serve pages: address, user agent, page requested.

Advertising, cookies and affiliate links

This site may display third-party advertising. Advertising and affiliate partners may use cookies or similar technologies to decide which advertisement to show you and to measure whether an advert led to a purchase.

  • Whose cookies they are. Theirs, not ours. They are set when their content loads in the page, under their own policies, and we do not control what they store.
  • Affiliate links. Some outbound links on this site are affiliate links. If you buy something through one of them, we may receive a commission. It does not change the price you pay.
  • Reading a transcript is unaffected. The recognition step runs locally whether advertising is present or not.

How to opt out of personalised advertising

  • Google-served ads — turn off ad personalisation in your Google Ads settings at adssettings.google.com.
  • Industry-wide opt-outs — aboutads.info (US), youronlinechoices.eu (EU), and the Network Advertising Initiative opt-out page, each covering the networks signed up to them.
  • In your browser — block third-party cookies, or clear cookies after a visit. Every major browser has both under its privacy settings.
  • What opting out does. It stops ads from being tailored to you. It does not stop ads from appearing.

What we do not have

  • Your file, your transcript, your name, or your email address — unless you write to us, in which case we have exactly what you sent and nothing more.
  • Any account system. There is no signup here, so there is no profile to hold.
